Web Site Moving
May 10th, 2007 by Solihull Soceity,Notice:
The Solihull Society web site will be moving to a new web hosting service. The planned move is for early Sunday May 13th. The main site will be moved including main pages, the Solihull Society Photo Gallery and the Solihull Society Forum.
More regarding the Solihull Society Website move…
The forum will be closed on the ‘old’ server at that time to prevent posts from disappearing. The Forum will then be moved to the ‘new’ web host server. The forum on the ‘new’ web host will be open right away.
Question:Can I still post to the Forum?
Answer:Yes. But… there will be special instructions until the move is complete. I will provide a way to get to the new forum. Those instructions will be posted very soon. I will send out an email containing instructions to all forum users.
Question: When will I see the new site?
Answer: Roughly 24 to 48 hours. The reality: takes about a week for all the ‘name’ servers around the world to point to the new location of our website. During that week, some areas of the world will be able access our new site; some areas of the world will continue to access the old site. Note: even if one person views our new web site in their browser, others may be viewing the old web site location. This is a normal process of moving to a new web hosting server.
Question: How will I know I am viewing the old location or the new location when I type solihullsociety.org?
Answer:The easiest way is to check the Forum. The old forum location will be shut down. You won’t be able to post. If you type solihullsociety.org and get an error or can’t find domain, etc.. See the question above: When will I see the new site? In this case there is a way to get to the new location in the interim. Instructions will be posted soon.
Question: Will there be problems with moving the site? i.e. I can’t access my email on the new site, I can’t log on the forum on the new site, etc…
Answer:Yes there will be problems. Moving a site takes a little time to get everything working correctly.
Question:When I type solihullsociety.org into my web browser all I see is the old site. Is there a way to get to the new location.
Answer:Yes. I will provide instructions shortly.
This is a planned process. Unfortunately there is no ‘Ideal’ day of the week to do the move. I thought Mothers day would be a good day to move the site.
(yes… I will still take time to see my mom for dinner)
Thank you for your patience and understanding during the next week.
My position as the Solihull Society Web Admin is a volunteer position. I still have a career to attend to while administering the Solihull Society web sites. If I could just win the lottery I could be your full time web admin.
Take Care All,
