Trail Ride Nov 22nd - Turret area

Saturday, November 15th, 2008

I have rescheduled the Nov 15 trail ride to Nov 22nd. Hopefully our weather will hold up. The Turret area trails, including Bassam Park, are generally mild trails and not quite as well used as other trails in the area like Chinaman Gulch. The trails are in what is known as the Fourmile Travel Management Area which extends from north of Buena Vista, down towards Salida. The trails between Johnson Village and Salida pass quite a few old mines who’s products consisted of feldspar, quartz, mica, iron, beryl, among other things. A lot of the roads have seasonal gates that close from Dec 1st to Apr 15th, although some are open all winter, snow level permitting.
This trip will consist of driving a combination of the trails from Johnson Village to Salida. Any vehicle is capable of the trails, barring any severe erosion which I doubt. Unless it was deep, snow probably wouldn’t be a big factor.
